Frequently Asked Questions
Registration:
1. Who can attend camp? Our camp is open to gymnasts ages 10–17. As per NCAA rules the camp is open to any and all ages and levels. Limited only by number, grade level, and/or gender. Please keep in mind your child's experience.
2. Can boys attend? This camp is designed specifically for women's artistic gymnastics.
3. How long is Camp Registration Open? Registration remains open until camp is full. We recommend registering early, as sessions often sell out.
4. Can I switch camp sessions after registering? If space is available, we will do our best to accommodate requests.
Check-In & Check-Out:
1. What time is check-in? Check-in begins at 9:00 a.m. and ends promptly at 10:15 a.m.
2. What time does camp end each day? Please refer to the website scottybaumangymnasticscamp.com/schedule
3. When do overnight campers check out? Overnight campers check out after the final workout on Saturday afternoon.
4. Can someone else drop off or pick up my gymnast? Yes, but please notify camp staff in advance if someone other than the parent or guardian will be dropping off or picking up your athlete.
5. During camp check in, campers can deposit cash into a "Camp Account", this camp account is then used to buy snacks throughout camp. Sorry no credit or debit cards accepted for this. Please be sure to bring cash. Any unused funds will be refunded at the end of camp.
Overnight Camp:
1. Who stays overnight? Only athletes registered as overnight campers stay in the residence halls.
2. How are roommates assigned? We make every effort to honor roommate requests. However, room assignments must also consider age, supervision, and housing logistics, so we cannot guarantee every request.
3. Why wasn't my roommate request granted? Many requests are mutual, but sometimes one gymnast requests another who has requested someone else. We work hard to create the best possible room assignments while balancing hundreds of requests.
4. Can roommates be changed during camp? No. Room assignments are finalized before camp begins and generally cannot be changed.
Meals:
1. Are meals provided? Yes. Overnight campers receive meals beginning with Thursday lunch through Saturday lunch. Day campers receive lunch each day.
2. Can dietary restrictions be accommodated? Yes. Please list all food allergies or dietary restrictions during registration. We work closely with university dining services to accommodate as many needs as possible.
Training:
1. What events will athletes train? Athletes will rotate through vault, bars, beam, floor, and additional drills, stations, games, and activities.
2. How are groups divided? Groups are organized by skill level to provide the best learning environment.
3. Will college coaches be coaching? Yes. Athletes will be instructed by the Southern Utah University coaching staff along with current and former collegiate gymnasts and experienced club coaches.
Medical:
1. What happens if my athlete gets injured? Certified athletic trainers are available throughout camp as well as a camp nurse. Parents will be contacted if additional medical care is needed.
2. Do I need medical insurance? Yes. All participants are required to carry their own medical insurance.
3. Can my athlete bring medication? Yes. Prescription medications should be clearly labeled and brought according to the instructions. Any controlled prescriptions, for the safety of all campers, must be checked in with the camp nurse during registration and the camp nurse will dispense according to label.
Camp Policies:
1. Are phones allowed? Yes, although we encourage athletes to stay engaged in camp activities and be respectful of others.
2. Can parents watch workouts? Yes, Although space is limited.
3. What is your behavior policy? Athletes are expected to treat coaches, staff, and fellow campers with respect. Bullying, hazing, inappropriate behavior, or unsafe conduct will not be tolerated.
Refunds:
1. What is your refund policy? More than 30 days before camp: Full refund. Within 30 days of camp: No Refunds.
2. What if my athlete becomes injured before camp? Please contact us as soon as possible. Injury situations are reviewed individually according to our refund policy.
Miscellaneous:
1. Can my athlete request to room with someone older? We try to keep roommates within an appropriate age range for supervision and camper experience, so some requests may not be possible.
2. Will athletes receive camp merchandise? Yes. Each registered camper receives an official camp Leotard!
3. Can athletes bring electronics? Yes, but they are brought at the camper's own risk. Camp is not responsible for lost or damaged items.
4. Can parents contact their camper during camp? Yes. Campers may use their cell phones during designated free times. If there is an emergency, parents may contact camp staff at any time.
5. What if my athlete gets homesick? Homesickness is common, especially for younger campers. Our staff is experienced in helping athletes adjust and have a positive camp experience. If necessary, we will contact parents.
